Welcome to Animal Kingdom

HOLA MIS AMORES :) This week we had several interesting encounters with lots of animals. Well, in reality, it was just cats and dogs. But lemme keep the story good.  This week, I almost got bitten by a dog and, needless to say, we now don't walk down that street in the afternoon.  We had a visit from three different dogs in our apartment and my companion decided to try to rescue two different cats. ( But don't worry, all animals have been returned to the street shortly after we fed them   )  We have been a little sad because almost all of the people we are teaching have decided not to continue listening or are moving out of our area. However, we are seeing the Lord's hand in our work. We have been receiving references from the members of our ward and have found a few people that have potential to come to the knowledge of their Savior! We met a young man named Enrique. We met him in the park and found out that he likes to read. I offere...

Que tal todos?!

This week, as every week, has been hot and filled with walking. We were a little disappointed to see that two of our investigators, Karen and Li, headed out to Jalisco for sure :( On the other and, we were excited because Leonardo came to church!! We have been teaching him for a while but he hadn't come to church. Our last two lessons we had with him were powerful. I had left him to read Alma 5 and to think about the things he needed to do. The next time we came, he had read it all and marked it up. He told me he understood that he needed to repent. We then taught the Ten Commandments and committed him to come to church. This time he said he would come. and HE CAME!! We have another appointment for this Tuesday and we are excited to see how it goes and are looking to set a baptismal date! In other news, we found a dog in our neighborhood that likes to sit on top of cars. We had some pretty good (and not to mention cheap) wings and french fries. We made friends w...

Another 6 Weeks En Del Sol

Image
Que tal todos! This week passed just about the same as any other! Last night, they called us with our transfers and.... we stayed the same! Everything keeps rollin on in Del Sol.  This week we were hit with some bad news. Two of the people we are teaching are moving to Jalisco this week and we won't be able to fulfill their basptismal date. :( But in good news, we have been finding lots of different types of people who have a lot of potential!  Yesterday we ate with a member who invited a recent convert from another ward. We got talking about Lehi's Dream and how in life we all have problems, big or small. This is what she had to say about it: 'Diga a su problema que tienes un Dios muy grande.' It just kinda hit me. We may have problems but we have a loving Heavenly Father who is much bigger than all of them. We should probably ask His help!  I like this talk ;) https://www. churchofjesuschrist.org/study/ ensign/1976/...

A 4th Away From Home

Hola todos! This week was about as hot as it looked.  This week we spent a lot of time street contacting because a lot of our citas fijas fell through. However we had two people come to church! I managed to pick up some raspberries and was pretty happy about that! The Fourth in my area was pretty cool but unfortunately, I didn't see any of it! We are two minutes away from the border but by the time we got into the apartment we didn't see anything but I sure did hear them :(  I don't have time to write much about this week but the church is true! I love this gospel! it changes lives! I love you all and I'll talk to you next week.  Love.  Hermana Thompson

It's Gettin Heated on the Border

We're talking literally and with all the immigrants... This week went well.  I love my area. We have been working hard and looking for more people. We are seeing a lot of progress in one hermana in particular. Her name is Marta. When we first visited her, she always emphasized that she didn't like the idea of a religion. She said that if we believe in God, we're good. We have seen her start to change her mind. When we sat to read the Book of Mormon with her, we saw the biggest change. She told us that, in her words not ours, she feels super strongly the Spirit and she knows that what she's doing is super good. She said that maybe she doesn't know God like she thought and is ready to do what it takes to follow Him. We are so excited to keep working with her and are looking forward to putting a baptismal date with her! In other news, this week we did a lot of unintentional suntanning. It's been getting pretty hot here and there is almost n...
